Ride Journal -Variety is the spice of life.

What I love best about being a Bikeability Instructor is the variety of working days it offers…oh and being outside…oh and delivering cycling advocacy to the next generation of riders…oh and riding bikes!
In any week I can be riding on the road with year 6’s for Bikeability level 2, riding more advance roads with year 7’s, teaching learn to ride with year 4’s or playing ride games for balance bike with reception or year 1’s. When you have this level of variety you really see the progression across the year groups all with the aim of increasing cycling use and keeping the next generation healthy. Sustainable, fun, practical and a healthy environment, that’s what cycling offers for all of life!
Cycling is for life…whether you ride for leisure, transport or both it offers “marginal” and “massive” gains for us all. Stepping down from my soap box, I see the sense of accomplishment in young people when they negotiate a junction, pass a parked car safely or perform a u-turn without hitting the curb, and this joy fills me with hope for the future!
Bikes are cool…right!? Think back to the freedom of your 1st bike, when you turned left at the bottom of the street and you could no longer see your house! And all your mates did the same. In an age when the roads are busier with traffic and there are more distractions, Bikeability offers a variety of life skills that are rites of passage…like learning to swim or climbing a tree…and that’s huge!
Never has it been more important to ride!
A variety of people, different locations, a mixture of bikes all in a wonderful mix of humanity.
Keep riding!
Keith
